How Do I Share The Gospel?

  • 1. Know your Audience

We live in a culture where the Gospel of Jesus Christ has been skewed, distorted, watered down, and ultimately misunderstood. It’s crucial to know who you’re talking to, where they come from, and what they’re going through. Whether it’s one person or a crowd, know your audience. While it’s important to be clear when sharing the Gospel, you have to be considerate about how you present it. Everyone has a story, take time to sit down and hear theirs.

Another aspect of sharing the Gospel is to pray for that one person or audience before talking to them. Lift them in prayer to God that He would soften their hearts. The Holy Spirit does the work, we are just called to be obedient vessels of His Word.

  • 2. Know the Gospel

It’s hard to share something if you’re not knowledgable about it. Many of us, as Christians, feel convicted about not sharing the Gospel enough. Could that be due to a lack of knowledge or confidence in God’s Word? Likely so.

The most practical way to know the Gospel is by reading and studying the Bible. Memorizing scripture is an important tool to help you share as well. We’ve linked John Piper’s summary of the Gospel below as a resource to get you started.

  • 3. Find Ways to Share

Sharing the Gospel isn’t as easy as just regurgitating scripture mid-conversation with someone. In fact, we don’t recommend starting with that. By knowing who you’re talking to and understanding the Gospel, you’ll be able to find ways to add it in conversation.

Aside from conversation, find ways to “invite” non-believers into your life. Not everybody wants a church invite. Start with inviting them to go hunting, fishing, or simply to dinner. Hobbies are a great way to share the Gospel.

Above all, ask God in prayer how He wants you to share. While it may seem like an elementary idea, you shouldn’t be surprised when He answers.
